Varnishing

Varnishing

A "Flood Varnish" which covers the entire paper can be used to reduce smearing of inks on glossy paper. This is especially important for business cards on coated stock - these get handled much more than other printed pieces. A varnish can also be used to increase or decrease the glossiness of a printed piece. "Spot Varnish" can be used to highlight specific items on the page such as pictures. As well, spot varnishes can be used to add textures or faintly visible images to a page. Uncoated papers do not hold a varnish as well as coated papers, and is not usually recommended.
